Our mission is to provide our customers the highest value in terms sustainability, health, cost, and quality.  

Our goal is to help customers live and work in structures that are energy efficient, durable, safe, healthy, pleasant, and comfortable.    

We strive to operate our business in a manner that is fair to our employees, our customers, our community, and the planet.  We strive to provide excellent customer service and a good place for employees to work.  We reduce, recycle, and re-use wherever possible. We also attempt to use products and vendors that will contribute to a strong local economy. 

History

In the year 2000, we started as a small Washington Business called Metro Green Remodeling, a green remodeling, general contracting firm in Olympia, WA. We changed the name to Quality Renovation and Carpentry along the way, all the while, continuing to provide residential remodeling services in Thurston County. In 2008, we learned of energy auditing and building performance. We got hooked, took more and more classes, and created Energy Efficiency First to partner with our general contracting firm and to focus on energy performance contracting.  

We found that by marrying our construction experience with principles of building science, and by embracing emerging energy-efficiency technologies, we can provide customers with a complete set of home performance contracting services.  Most often these days, we're approaching homes and small businesses through the lens of energy efficiency.  We're working to make structures energy efficient, safe & healthy, and comfortable.  When we see structures in need of repair, we address those building durability issues.  We still do remodeling and we really like it when a customer wants to incorporate home performance into the design.        

Our Team

Bernie Miller - Owner and Team Lead

A third-generation carpenter and artisan, Bernie takes his commitment to quality and reliability to heart.  Bernie learned the trade from his father and older brothers in Ohio doing projects from framing houses to building sailboats.

Bernie moved to Washington in 1999 for the great outdoors.  Bernie has provided remodeling and carpentry services in Thurston County since 2000 and offers fine craftsmanship at affordable prices. He is proud to be the owner and operator of Quality Renovation & Carpentry LLC.

Bernie is also certified by the Building Performance Institute to apply nationally recognized standards when conducting energy audits and weatherizing buildings and homes.  From 2010 to date, Bernie has conducted over 300 full diagnostic energy audits and hundreds of residential energy assessments.  Bernie created Energy Efficiency First as a partner of Quality Renovation and Carpentry to focus on doing the work to make homes and small businesses in our community more energy efficient, durable, and healthy.  Bernie is committed to lowering carbon emissions one building at a time and to making customers happy through enhanced comfort and energy savings. 

Jacqui Brown Miller - Marketing and General Support

Jacqui helps Quality Renovation & Carpentry by keeping the web site up to date and undertaking other marketing projects.  As a supportive spouse to the company’s owner, Jacqui is a sounding board for project ideas and the general direction of the company.

The company’s mission and eco-friendly philosophy are inspired by Jacqui’s passion for environmental sustainability and social justice. Jacqui has an LL.M. in environmental law from George Washington University.  Since 1993, Jacqui has served public sector clients as an attorney and public policy analyst, primarily on environmental and natural resources issues.
